Uptown Girl?  Downtown Guy?

There is a theory you may hear a lot about where it is cheaper to gamble.  Generally it is believed that Downtown, in Old-school Vegas, profits are less and therefore winning is more.  That the machines have a greater payout rate.  There are actually detailed reports and studies into these, which we have read a little of... And on the whole, guess what?  The casino tends to win.  BUT there ARE differences to the experience and so here is trusted's pros and cons to The Strip versus Downtown for youspending-money-fun.

the strip

Walk The Strip, enjoy each hotel, get a free drink from a little bet in each (see here). You are covering more ground as....

However the strip is a big. big. walk. your feet will hurt!

The rumour is that the slot machines downtown have a higher payout rate than on the strip...

Meaning the strip is a more expensive pursuit for table players, but also a more 'proffessional' one with higher stakes.  if you're rich, lose it (or sometimes win it) on the strip!

                  downtown

Downtown is a smaller area, with much more focus on the old school vegas gambling, and less on the 'adult disneyworld' type activities of the strip...

If it's a fun day of gambling small, and whiling the hours away on a slot machine then...Downtown is the logical choice.  much harder to get lost from a friend as you go your own way...

And its certainly true that the table bets - for blackjack and poker - are much cheaper minimum bets. Two dollars is not unusual.

But downtown isn't for everyone. it's your oldschool, beige, vegas, further from non-gambling fun.

Trusted conclusion:  There is no such thing as cheaper gambling.  You decide what you bet, downtown or strip. but the experience is bigger on the strip for those making it part of a bigger day of adventures, but perhaps a little more fun downtown, if you need a day of getting lost in the world of vegas and not walking as much.
